It is essential for homeowners in the UK to shop around in order to find the best home insurance deals available to them, according to Sainsbury's.
The company's head of home insurance, Steve Johnson, made the comment after research by the retail giant found that nearly nine million households did not request additional quotes when they last renewed their home cover.
In addition, 16 per cent of consumers who did compare several deals only decided to obtain one extra quote.
Mr Johnson said: "Although it may seem tempting to just stick with your renewal quote or the first quote you get, it really is essential to shop around.
"Despite the fact that home insurance premiums are reportedly on the rise, products vary dramatically and there are some cracking deals out there if people take the time to evaluate what's on offer."
A study by Legal & General recently found that UK consumers are more likely to take out home insurance than consider buying life cover.
The company's protection product marketing director, Bonnie Burns, said the findings proved that the UK's priorities "were misguided".
